Subject:Race and Equality Conference, Niagara University, June 13-15, 2018

Hi everyone, We are pleased to announce the first Rose Bente Lee Ostapenko Center for Race, Equality, and Mission conference at Niagara University. The inaugural conference is titled: University, community, and government partnerships for race and equality. Our conference sub theme is reconciliation and system changes. We are seeking abstracts for presentations, poster presentations, roundtable discussions and workshops that examine the relationship of universities to their community in relation to race and equality. This link provides more information: https://www.niagara.edu/niagara-university-partnerships-for-race-and-equality/ The goal is to focus on the ways in which universities can/should/do/don’t partner with their communities and local government to address issues of race, equality, and social justice. The conference will feature: Dr. David Anderson Hooker (Professor of the Practice of Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding at the University of Notre Dame) as our keynote speaker and responses from a panel that will include: Dr. Connie Mick (Associate Director of the Center for Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame), Dr. Steve Michael (Executive Vice president of Academic Affairs and Provost at Charles, R. Drew University of Medicine and Science), and Dr. Rosa Rivera McCutchen (Associate Professor, Graduate Leadership Programs, Program Coordinator of Educational Leadership Programs at CUNY Lehman). In addition, Dr. Christiana Bratiotis (Assistant Professor, The University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus) will lead a master workshop on successful partnerships, including task forces. Finally, Dr. Patrick McCormick (Professor of Religious Studies, Gonzaga University) will serve as our welcome dinner speaker. In addition to the conference, presenters and participants will have the chance to visit Niagara Falls and the surrounding area on both the U.S. and Canadian sides of the border (e.g., Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds, etc). For those interested in wine and wineries, the region includes some of the best wine country in North America. The Buffalo area also features some of the world’s greatest architecture (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g60974-Activities-c47-t3-Buffalo_New_York.html ). Please consider distributing across all of your electronic and social media platforms. ___________________________________ Rolanda L.
