Call for Student Nominations

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

Child Maltreatment: The Journal of the American Professional Society on the
Abuse of Children is seeking nominations of outstanding graduate students,
interns, or fellows to serve as members of a new student reviewer section
which will be adjunctive to the CM Editorial Board. The section will be
chaired by Bette L. Bottoms, Ph.D., and will provide students an opportunity
to gain experience in the scientific peer review and publication processes.
Student review section members will provide anonymous manuscript reviews
under the supervision of a faculty mentor or a mentor from the CM Editorial
Board. When co-signed by the faculty or Board mentor, these reviews will be
included in the journal's decision and feedback process, and comments will
be forwarded to authors. As with all CM reviewers, students then will
receive anonymous copies of all other reviews done on the manuscript so that
they may compare their analysis and comments with those of recognized
experts in the field. Student section members are encouraged to attend and
participate in Editorial Board meetings and discussions, but will not serve
as Board members.

Applications are encouraged from students of diverse backgrounds and diverse
professional disciplines, including psychology, social work, medicine, law,
criminal justice, and other areas related to child maltreatment. A total
of six students will be selected to serve two-year terms. Applications
should include:

* A cover letter from the student indicating his or her interest in
serving
* A 1-2 page statement from the student detailing his or her
background and interest in the field of child abuse and neglect and career
plans
* A sealed nomination letter from the designated faculty or Editorial
Board mentor indicating:
* His or her evaluation of the student's qualifications
* His or her commitment to work with the student in reviewing
manuscripts, preparing comments and co-signing recommendations
*       A copy of the student's vita
* A copy of the faculty or Editorial Board mentor's vita.

The deadline for applications is April 1, 1999. Applications or inquiries
should be made to:
