I am a little surprised at the strength of the remarks defending our American freedoms. (Perhaps it's just the limitations of email...) Are we as a country beyond critique? We wrap ourselves up in the flag, and the inquiry goes no further. The press and entertainment industry wrap up in freedom of speech and do not inquire into how they may contribute to the violence and fear in society. Proponents of gun ownership wrap up in the right to bear arms and the discussion about gun violence never progresses.. Having freedom carries with it a responsibility to continually inquire into the use of that freedom and whether it is continuing to serve society and in what way it may be harming it. There is no harm in asking if we could be doing something differently or looking at what toxic force has been created unknowingly. If we cannot admit when we might be making better choices, we will have problems that persist in spite of our efforts to solve them. Respectfully, Macall Gordon
