I get the impression a lot of group care is based on a presumption of delinquency in the youth in such care, and I see the lumping-together of phrases like "emotional disturbance," "behaviorally disordered," "antisocial behavior," "delinquent and neglected" with very little effort (it often seems) to get beyond that lumping. I remember seeing reference to a Connecticut study that found the majority of youth in group care settings were identified as having "behavioral disorders" and/or attention disorders--but there was a sizeable number for whom the primary issues were (in, I think, descending order) mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and an assortment of less frequently diagnosed conditions. The major group care provider in my state relies heavily on a treatment protocol that apparently has a fairly strong research basis--for adults with borderline personality disorder. <BR>
