I am on a committee in our community (the family violence taskforce) that<br>
is trying to get law enforcement to used an enhanced charge-child<br>
endangerment-when a Partner/Family Member Assault occurs and children are<br>
present. We all know the outcome for these children (who are often<br>
exposed to violence in their homes over and over again) is a developmental<br>
trajectory that lands them in exactly the same situation as their offender<br>
or victim parent. Do you know of any specific research that might be used<br>
to sway our county attorney to look at an enhanced charge of child<br>
endangerment? We know we may have to do some statutory work at the state<br>
level, but we figure we need to convince our county attorneys before we<br>
can convince our attorney general to look at this! We also know we may be at<br>
odds with some of the DV advocates, but we really want to address this<br>
proactively (Billings has also seen some fairly gruesome outcomes (in one<br>
year's time, two offenders killed their entire families-which for us is<br>
pretty big) when we haven't been able to intervene in some proactive way<br>
to protect the children and the victims.<br>
