it is qualitative. It’s purpose is to understand better the range of more

resources and barriers to supporting their child. Of course there are studies showing
that some nonoffending parents experience post-traumatic stress disorder.

of parents you allude to below, it's professionally and politically incorrect
to study the same. I have fielded at least ten thousand e-mails/phone calls

psychometric tests such as the MMPI-2, PDS, et al were administered so
that reliability and validity values could be established for parents suffering
from PTSD or PTSD features.

nonoffending parents of sexually abused children. A few have lost their
children and have not had them returned; others have had their children
returned. One of the compelling themes for these parents is the experience of
tragic loss and profound distress combined with posttraumatic symptoms of
parents when their children were not with them. Another recurrent theme is a
deep fear from the returned children that their parents will disappear again.
Parents recounted heightened anxiety in their children regarding instances when
they were not immediately available or in parents when children were out of
their sight. Even 1 or 2 years later parents and children continued to struggle
with the effects of the loss, including experiencing posttraumatic symptoms
related to the loss.

them needed ongoing supportive therapy to help them to contend with their
profound loss so that they could attend to what was necessary to get their kids
back. It also appeared that appropriate postreunification family or individual
treatment could have helped them to contend with and hopefully overcome the
posttraumatic and anxiety symptoms that appeared to be so closely associated
with their having lost each other for a time.
