A famous police program is the New Haven Child Development-Community Policing (CD-CP) program. I'm not sure how specifically focused it would be on reporting, but it is a collaborative with officers and mental health professionals to provide community interdisciplinary intervention to children and families that are impacted by violence. -----Original Message----- From: David Finkelhor [SMTP:davidf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, September 09, 1999 5:08 AM To: Child Maltreatment Researchers Subject: Exemplary police departments << File: ATT00000.html >> A research issue we are continuing to pursue here concerns the fact that crimes against juveniles of all sorts (not only child abuse) are less likely to be reported to the police than crimes against adults. As part of looking for solutions, we are interested in being referred to police departments around the country that may be doing exemplary work to increase reporting about youth victimization. We are thinking of initiatives beyond things like closer cooperation with child protective services around reporting and investigation, which seems to be a fairly standard innovation. Rather we are wondering about things like public education, community outreach to youth and families and schools to promote reporting. Do any departments come to mind?
