Certainly that is the position of the state child welfare agency in Western Australia. When we refer a client to a private practitioner in a child protection situation whether it be the child or an adult who is part of the family, the abuser or the non abusing care giver, etc we have as part of our referral that the practitioner agrees to provide us with any information that may impact on the risk/safety of a child or specific children and any information that could inform the department's decision making about such children. This includes any gains ( or lack thereoof) made in treatment that may impact on the risk to a child! Dr. Barbara Meddin Senior Advisor Social Work Services Family and Children's Services Perth, Australia >>> <BRubin525@xxxxxxx> 16/09/99 22:09:23 >>> Is anyone aware of any research or articles on the effects of different therapist positions regarding confidentiality with mandated CPS clients. I am currently in disagreement with CPS over what should be the proper expectations for the release of information between the therapist who is seeing mandated CPS clients and the social workers who have made the referral. The social workers are strongly requesting that their be few limits on the info. passed between the therapist and social worker. The therapist wants the release of info. to be more focused and restrictive. In my conversations with CPS, it would be helpful to know if there has been any work done in their area.
