From the Moderator: Moderation guidelines for the list

There has been some discussion off the list regarding the guidelines the
moderators use when deciding whether to approve a submitted message for the
list. For this reason, I would like to circulate a shorter, more
user-friendly, description of the list and its moderation guidelines, which
has been adapted from the information you received when you originally
subscribed.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me
directly (egs1@xxxxxxxxxxx). I welcome your feedback.

Thanks,
Elliott Smith
List Moderator

***** Description and Guidelines *****

The goal of the Child-Maltreatment-Research-L list is to facilitate
information exchange and networking among researchers in the field of child
abuse and neglect. The scope of the list includes all areas of CAN research
and the full range of research issues (e.g., measurement, instrumentation,
statistical analysis, ethics). The list is not open to discussions of
program-related or clinical issues except as they relate to research.

This is a moderated list. When you post a message, it will be forwarded to
a moderator, who has the option of approving your message in full or
discarding it -- the moderator is not able to edit a submitted message.

The following types of messages are generally not approved:
1) messages intended for the Listprocessor rather than the list
2) messages concerning subscriptions to the list
3) messages that appear to be intended for an individual subscriber, rather
than for the whole list. NOTE: We will not forward these messages to the
intended recipient, but we will suggest that you do.
4) messages not related to child maltreatment research
5) overly general requests for information and assistance
6) messages concerning strictly clinical aspects of child maltreatment
7) messages consisting of opinions or personal statements
