CALL FOR PAPERS
Brief Treatment and Crisis Intervention: A Journal of Evidence-Based Practice

Child Maltreatment and Domestic Violence: Current State of Knowledge
and Emerging Strategies for Practice

Edited by Aron Shlonsky and Colleen Friend

Children and families who are reported for maltreatment often present
with multiple problems spanning several service systems, each carrying
its own risk of harm. Among the most serious of these is domestic
violence (DV). However, the child welfare and DV service systems are
sometimes at odds with each other, further complicating an already
difficult set of circumstances. This special issue of Brief Treatment
and Crisis Intervention is soliciting papers that specifically address
the intersection of child maltreatment (CM) and DV. Moving beyond
basic epidemiology, theoretical frameworks, and philosophical
discussions, the special issue will solicit papers that address the
following key questions: How might the child welfare system begin to
cope with families where violence occurs between adults in the home?
What services have been used and have they been effective? What are
some of the major impediments to service provision? How do the
various forms of child maltreatment interact with DV?

The refereed articles should be empirical studies, critical
(preferably systematic) reviews of the topic area with implications
for time-limited treatments or crisis intervention with children and
families experiencing co-occurring child maltreatment and domestic
violence. Promising treatment strategies that are under development
or are in the initial stages of development will also be considered.

Electronic submissions are preferred. All submissions are to be
original and up-to-date, ranging from 14 to 45 pages plus additional
space for references and other end-matter, and should include a
section detailing practical treatment implications. All papers should
be typed double-spaced with 1? margins on all sides, in a 12 point
font. Manuscripts are due by December 15, 2006. The special issue is
scheduled for publication in April, 2007.
