Article 81 of the mental hygiene law is a New York State Statute. I am not sure if that also refers to a federal law? If what you are looking for is NYS law you can find it on the NYS Assembly web site. If you google New York State Laws you will find it. Once you get on the Assembly site cick on bill search and then click on NYS laws. they are listed by category.

I'm trying to locate the "Mental Hygiene Law", and especially its art. 81 (Guardianship); I searched through Google, FindLaw, Altavista etc., and every time I stumbled upon a number of law firms dealing with such issues, or court decisions (at times even amusing; I find one on attorney's fees which recalled me some cases here in my home town), etc.. May someone please address me to the right site (if there is one)? 

I'm looking first of all for its TEXT, as it stands now; how it is applied is useful, of course, but without the text of the law text everything becomes confused. I'm working on cross national comparisons in the following areas: protection of the mentally ill person in general, of the demented person (not only the elderly, but also the younger, in cases of post-traumatic dementias or from medical conditions), and the mentally ill parent of minors (i.e. children below the age of 18).
