RE: Treating children who have inflicted as well as experienced violence--urgent request

In the UK you can contact the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims
of Torture http://www.torturecare.org.uk/

If you go to the publications section and then the clinical
bibliography, children and families, there is a lot of material. I used
some of their material to support some work with a young woman who had
escaped to the UK from the Lords Resistance Army a couple of years back.
Not sure if thematerial is still avaiolable, but an excellent
organisatiopn.

You might explore the resources at the Center for Victims of Torture at
the University of Minnesota at www.cvt.org. They have a resource page on
working with youth which I think might address issues of being both a
victim of and participating in violence. I believe Ann Masten at the
University of Minnesota and Jon Hubbard of the CVT may have done some
research in this area as well.

Good luck.

Dear Colleagues.
I am looking for on-line resources & publications, suggestions of print
materials, and even good contacts and anecdotal information to share
with a colleague who works with children in Uganda who have escaped from
their abduction into the Lords Resistance Army, where many of them were
forced to commit atrocities, as well as suffering as victims themselves.
She is returning to Uganda in just a few days and I'd like to obtain and
print out as much as I can for her before she returns.

>From U.S. gangs to the Khmer Rouge to the paramilitary in El Salvador,
people have been forced to commit atrocities. Can anyone recommend
materials on this topic? Surely the healing processes must be somewhat
different than those for people who been victimized only.

Thanks for your assistance. Feel free to write me off-list at
LFontes@rcn.com if you prefer.
Thank you!
