endeavor (unless you consider a verbal statement about abuse to be a
behavior). You probably want to read the old article by Jon Conte and Lucy
Berliner published several years ago in Child Abuse and Neglect about the
problems with the "sign" or "red flag" approach. The problem is that
CSA onset may have no clear behavioral sequelae, or the behaviors can vary
widely and most of them can have so many other, and more common, causes that
they have very low specificity. Highly atypical sexual behaviors in
young children are usually regarded as a clear cause for inquiring further
with the child about possible abuse, although by themselves would not be
considered diagnostic of abuse. </FONT></DIV></DIV>
