reviewers for its child abuse prevention initiative, called Partnerships for
Families (PFF). We are looking for persons that have expertise in one or more
of the following fields: child abuse prevention, social work, family support,
community building and evaluation of child abuse prevention programs. Selected
reviewers will join an independent panel responsible for supporting First 5 LA
in the selection of its eight grantees for the PFF initiative.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

consist of two parts: 1) a detailed assessment of submitted proposals to
develop a pool of finalist, and 2) a consensus panel that will recommend the
eight grantees. The review process will occur over a two-three week period
beginning on October 24, 2005. All reviewers will need to attend a one-day
consensus meeting during this timeframe. A stipend will be available. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

million in the prevention of child maltreatment through an initiative called
Partnerships for Families (PFF). PFF is a community based secondary prevention
initiative. It is designed to help fill gaps in the current child welfare
system by developing and providing voluntary prevention services to pregnant
women and families (with children younger than age five) who are at high risk
for child maltreatment.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"'>In implementing Partnerships
for Families, First 5 LA will partner with the Los Angeles County Department of
Children and Family Services to meet a joint goal of preventing child
maltreatment by ensuring that all families with children, from birth through
eighteen years of age, live in physically and emotionally safe environments.
The First 5 LA–DCFS partnership will allow First 5 LA and DCFS to
leverage prevention resources, share pertinent information regarding best
practices and child/family outcomes, and ultimately work to change the system
of care for children across the county. By working together, the likelihood of
success is far greater than it would be for any single endeavor. In the event
that our prevention efforts are successful, children will be safer, the number
of children in out-of-home placement will decrease and families will be more
self-sufficient; thereby, increasing the amount of resources that can be used
to support families. The joint efforts will be located in communities
surrounding eight (8) of the seventeen (17) DCFS regions; First 5 LA will
implement PFF in one region per Los Angeles County Service Planning Area.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

5 LA released a Request for Proposal for the Partnerships for Families
initiative. Through this RFP, First 5 LA will select lead agencies to develop a
collaborative that will provide prevention services and supports to high risk
pregnant women and families with children five years of age or younger that are
considered to be at high risk for abuse or neglect as identified by the
Department of Children and Family Services. Proposals are due by 5:00 p.m. on
October 21, 2005. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
