<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">Dear pediatric psychology colleagues,</FONT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"><BR>
</FONT><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Arial">As many of you know, Bill Friedrich fought a valiant fight against cancer for many years. Unfortunately, he passed away yesterday. He was a wonderful colleague to many and will be well remembered for his wit, creativity, teaching, and research. His obituary is attached.</FONT></P>
<BR>

<P><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">A memorial service for William N. Friedrich will be at 7pm October 9 at St. Mary&#8217;s Chapel, Rochester, MN.&nbsp; We ask that no one wears black as this will be a joyous celebration of his extraordinary life.</FONT></P>

<P><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">He passed away September 26 after a valiant battle with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.&nbsp; </FONT>
</P>

<P><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">William was born in Mercedes, TX on October 12, 1951.&nbsp; In 1974 he graduated with majors in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology from Texas Lutheran College.&nbsp; He received his MPH from the University of Texas, School of Public Health in 1975 and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Dakota in 1980.&nbsp; He taught at the University of Washington from 1980 through 1986 and then accepted a position at the Mayo Clinic.&nbsp; Bill authored several books on treatment of sexually abused children and has published over 130 articles and multiple chapters on the evaluation and treatment of maltreated children and their parents.&nbsp; His book, &#8220;Psychological Assessment of Sexually Abused Children and their Families,&#8221; was published in 2001, and his book &#8220;Treating Children with Sexual Behavior Problems&#8221; is currently in press with W.W. Norton, featuring his son&#8217;s artwork on the cover!&nbsp; He developed the Child Sexual Behavior Inventory published by PAR (</FONT><A HREF="file://www.parinc.com"><U><FONT COLOR="#0000FF" FACE="Times New Roman">www.parinc.com</FONT></U></A><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">) and was a Diplomat with the American Board of Professional Psychology in both Clinical and Family Psychology.&nbsp; Bill was awarded an Outstanding Career Research Award by APSAC in 2001.&nbsp; From 1997 through 2002, he was a core faculty member of the Eastern European Children&#8217;s Mental Health Society, and served a Fulbright Fellowship in Latvia in 2003.&nbsp; In 2005 he received the Mayo Medical Faculty Service Award.&nbsp; </FONT></P>

<P><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">National and international travel was one of Bill&#8217;s favorite hobbies.&nbsp; Reading and writing short stories were other passions of his.&nbsp; He appreciated all forms of nature and was especially fond of bird watching and riding his bike on trails across Minnesota.&nbsp; Additionally, Bill was very politically aware and a good Minnesota liberal through and through.</FONT></P>

<P><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Survivors include his wife Wanda, daughter Hannah (Eric Refsell), and son Karl.&nbsp; A daughter, Lydia Adrianna, preceded him in death.&nbsp; He was a fantastic father and husband and enthusiastic supporter of the arts.&nbsp; Bill was well respected by his friends and colleagues.&nbsp; He is immeasurably missed. </FONT></P>

<P><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">It is Bill&#8217;s wish that all memorials be directed to Franconia Sculpture Park.&nbsp; </FONT>
