AFCARS 2003 and NCANDS Child File 2002 now available
The National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect
is pleased to announce the availability of two new datasets:
- The Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS)
dataset for 2003
- The case-level National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS)
Child File dataset for 2002
The AFCARS is a federal data collection effort that provides
child-specific information on all children in foster care or adopted
through state agencies. These children are covered by the protections of
Title IV-B and Title IV-E of the Social Security Act. Data from all
states, DC, and Puerto Rico are included.
The NCANDS is the primary source of national
information on reports of child abuse and neglect. The Child File
available from the Archive contains case-level information from 23 states
(including DC) for 2002. Data on investigated reports of child
maltreatment are included.
These datasets permit researchers to conduct multivariate analyses that
go beyond published reports, such as Child Maltreatment and the
Child Welfare Outcomes Report.
