In what I have read, there are some very good points. If I am repeating some of what has been said in previous posts, I apologize. It is important to remember that clinical judgment alone in assessing the risk of future interpersonal violence is no better than chance. Many studies have verified this. While risk instruments are not perfect they improve prediction above chance levels. The ROC statistic is the appropriate statistic for low base rate behaviors and most risk instruments are compared using the ROC. The address for some charts comparing the various tools is: http://riskcomparison.careforusall.com/youthviolencerisk.html. It is also true that is important to measure a wide range of risk and resiliency6 factors and treatment or intervention needs. This should be integral to risk assessment.
