Re: punish by banging on teeth with knife handle
Response/posting on behalf of Anne Neurnberg, Child Interview Specialist/Trainer at CornerHouse. Any response is appreciated...
Never heard of it. But while we're on the topic of unusual punishment, I'd like to know if anyone else has any experience, knowledge or insight into the practice of cutting/shaving a child's hair as punishment. I had another case last week where the parents of a 15-year old, developmental delayed girl shaved her head for not showering or bathing. There were allegations of sexual abuse by dad, but the child made no disclosure. The only times I've ever heard of this are in cases of inter-familial (parent-child) sexual abuse. Of course, I'm not looking at it as a "symptom," just wondering if anyone else has seen a correlation that is more pronounced than the fairly-obvious boundary issue...?

Greetings Colleagues!
I recently heard anecdotally that some Vietnamese families
punish children by banging on their teeth with the handle of
a butter knife. I am wondering if--indeed--this is a
punishment which others have seen in Vietnamese families in
particular, or in other families.
In other words, is this a punishment with a cultural root,
or a peculiarity of one family? All references and info
appreciated.
thanks!
