Re: victim disclosure changes question

Child Protection Officials in Louisiana did a report on this and used peer review journals.  It was not on males specifically, though.  They just did a literature search on disclosure and found the issue prevalent in the literature on how victims disclose.  This was a few years ago but I remember a title on Progressive disclosure.  I would have to contact them for more info.  You can email me separately if you would like me to pursue this.  Judy msju@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Subject: victim disclosure changes question

Colleagues,

I have been asked by a local detective about publications regarding the
phenomenon of child sexual abuse victims changing (increasing) the amount of
abuse they disclose after the initial (lesser) disclosures. There is a local
court case that he is anticipating a defense attorney attempting to discredit
an adolescent males' disclosures because at the initial disclosure to law
enforcement was significantly less detailed than subsequent interviews
generated.

Clinically and anecdotally I am not surprised that a victim would become more
comfortable with discussing issues, but cannot recall a peer reviewed or
emperically evaluated publication on the topic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Lynn, besides Bruce Perry there are a couple of books: Ghosts from the
Nursery and (I think) How the Brain Works...I'm away from my Library and
can't check the titles right now but think that's correct.
