Postdoctoral Fellowships
Please post the following announcement:
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
The Wellesley Centers for Women (WCW) at Wellesley College announces four
full-time, 12-month postdoctoral fellowships for training in childhood and
adolescence research, pending final approval. These positions, funded
through an institutional training grant from the National Institute of
Child Health and Development, are open to both new and experienced
researchers with doctorates in the social and behavioral sciences (Ph.D.,
M.D., Dr.P.H., Ed.D., or equivalent). Racial and/or ethnic minorities who
have an earned doctorate are strongly encouraged to apply. The appointment
is for a minimum of two years; fellows may apply to continue for a third
year. The training program is located at Wellesley College and led by WCW
senior researchers and selected Wellesley College faculty.
The training will emphasize variations in child and adolescent development
by race and ethnicity, gender, and social class and how these interact
with risk and resiliency factors, longitudinal assessment and analysis,
and the identification and development of scholars from underrepresented
groups who will launch independent research careers. Key program elements
will include a series of core seminars and independent research as well as
collaboration on one’s preceptor’s research.
Candidates are encouraged to read more about the postdoctoral program at [
http://www.wcwonline.org ]www.wcwonline.org before completing their
application. Candidates must be citizens of the U.S. or have permanent
resident status; individuals on temporary or student visas are not
eligible. The application should include a short introductory letter
accompanied by (1) a two- to three-page (double-spaced) statement of
research goals and how specific aspects of the WCW program will help meet
them, (2) three letters of recommendation, including one from a
dissertation advisor, (3) current vitae, (4) a copy each of no more than
three peer-reviewed publications, and (5) a copy of a doctoral diploma or
letter from a department chair confirming that the candidate has met (or
will meet) all requirements for the doctoral degree by the anticipated
start date. These should be mailed to Sumru Erkut, Ph.D., Wellesley
Centers for Women, 106 Central Street, Wellesley, MA 02481. Review of
applications will begin on April 1, 2004; earliest date of appointment is
July 1, 2004.
