The announcement below about a new Rutgers University Press series on childhood studies may be of interest to some of you who have book proposals. ______________________________________________ Jane A. Siegel, Ph.D. Assistant Professor Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice Rutgers University 311 No. 5th Street Camden, NJ 08102 **************************************************************** Rutgers University Press is about to undertake a new series in childhood studies. As the editor, I am looking for manuscripts or proposals for possible publication in the series. The purpose of this series is to increase understanding of children and childhood experiences in the United States and abroad. The series will reflect the new view of children and approaches to the study of childhood. Scholars are beginning to study the way that children help shape culture rather than simply reflecting culture. Authors will come from a variety of fields including anthropology, criminal justice, history, literature, psychology, religion, and sociology. Books will be addressed not only to a scholarly audience, but also to those directly responsible for ministering to children’s needs and formulating policies affecting their lives and futures. The Press expects to publish 3-4 titles annually and is actively seeking new projects. I am also the Director of the Rutgers University Center of Children and Childhood Studies. The Center supports research and scholarship focusing on the lives and experiences of children around the world and develops, evaluates, and advances service and outreach programs designed to benefit children, as well as preparing students for careers that affect the lives of children. The advisory board for the series includes Enid Schildkraut, head of the department of anthropology and curator for Africa at the American Museum of Natural History, Jill Korbin, professor of anthropology and co-director of the Schubert Center for Child Development at Case Western Reserve University, Joan Jacobs Brumberg, Stephen H. Weis Presidential Fellow and professor of Human Development at Cornell University, and Perri Klass, assistant professor of pediatrics at the Boston University School of Medicine and medical director of the Reach Out and Read National Center. Founded in 1936, Rutgers University Press is a non-profit academic publishing house operating under the auspices of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. The Press publishes titles in African American studies, anthropology, art, cultural studies, economics, environmental studies, film, gay and lesbian studies, health, history, humor, literature, medicine, New Jersey and regional studies, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, science, and women's studies.
