Dear Ray, I would strongly suggest that you have texts which cover aspects of emotional/social development in depth including attachment issues. Off the top of my head, I would suggest 'Attachment in the Pre-school Years' Edited by Greenberg, Cicchetti, Cummings. It is relatively 'old' - 1990 but has some good stuff in it. Also Alan Stroufe's work on Emotional Development, published in 1995. I hope too that your students are looking at the issues from a range of psychological perspectives and are prepared to face up to difficult issues such as violent men had a emotional/psychological route to their violent behaviour and did not just 'spring up' ready made, so to speak - and that your students also do not get too bogged down in the mantra that only men abuse etc. etc. (Sorry, hobby horse was trotting into the picture there!!) Best wishes Maria Robinson
