Tough
question! I don't know of any research that relates a single event of any
kind, to any outcome, anywhere. A single event of sexual acting-out,
although begging for careful scrutiny, could easily fall into the realm of very
ordinary exploratory behavior (depending on the associated features and factors
specific to the actual event and the boys other risk and protective
factors).

There
are a lot of individualized factors to consider in order to
determine risk of future acting-out/offending and there is no instrument for
children or adolescents, that I am aware of, that has actually been validated to
predict recidivism. In fact, child and adolescent sex offending is a very
poorly understood area. Reading almost any literature on the subject
suggests that the field is in the early stages of formulation and that we
are still in the sorting and sifting stage of information
accumulation.

If
there was aggression involved in the event, that raises the red flag; poor
social skills, trauma hx, exposure to pornography raises the yellow flag.
Be careful not to over identify or emphasize the sexual acting-out without due
consideration.

  all,

I posted this to one of the lists before and got a single
response (thanks, Eva), but wanted to see what other ideas some of you might
  have....

Can anyone refer me to research on the relevance or generalizeability of
a single incident of sexual acting out while an adolescent (exposing oneself
to a younger child, possibly encouraging the child to touch him, stopped
before contact, pulled away) to future sexual offending?)
Interests have been directed toward adults (including adult porn) since that
time - 20 years plus, I think. If there are any specific references on
point, I'd appreciate them - especially if there are sites where I can
download them! Any references relevant to whether risk increases or
decreases based on the nature of the original offense?

Thanks in advance
