RE: research ethics question
The big ethical problem with this hypothetical in my mind is (aside from
whether parents and children were warned about the limits of
confidentiality), the time lag between the reporting by the child and the
noticing by the data person.
It would seem that even with a computer administered survey, there might be
a way that critical items could be flagged for the data collector and in
cases where the items are endorsed, the collector could notify immediately
or have the option of clarifying the intent of the responses with the child.
