CALL FOR APPLICATIONS:
Student Section of Child Maltreatment Editorial Board

Child Maltreatment is seeking outstanding graduate students, interns, or postdoctoral fellows to serve as members of the Student Section of reviewers, which is adjunctive to the CM Editorial Board. The Student Section provides students an opportunity to gain experience in the scientific peer review and publication processes. Student Section members provide anonymous manuscript reviews under the supervision of a faculty mentor of their choosing. When co-signed by the faculty mentor, these reviews are included in the journal's decision and feedback process and forwarded to authors. As with all CM reviewers, students then receive anonymous copies of all other reviews of the manuscript, so that they may compare their analysis and comments with those of recognized experts in the field. Student Section members are encouraged to attend and participate in Editorial Board meetings and discussions, but do not serve as Board members.

A total of six students will be selected to serve 2-year terms, replacing the current cohort of Student Section members. Applications are encouraged from students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows of diverse backgrounds and professional disciplines, including psychology, social work, medicine, law, criminal justice, and other areas related to child maltreatment. At the time of application, applicants must be at least one year away from graduating or taking a regular, non-postdoctoral employment position.

Applications should include these four elements (together in one envelope):
< A statement (2 pages maximum) from the applicant indicating his or her (a) interest in serving, (b) background and interest in the field of child abuse and neglect, (c) experience, if any, relevant to editorial reviewing or publishing, and (d) career plans.
< The applicant's curriculum vitae, including current contact information.
< A sealed nomination letter from the designated faculty mentor indicating his or her evaluation of the student's qualifications and commitment to work with the student in reviewing manuscripts, preparing comments, and co-signing reviews.
< An abbreviated copy of the faculty mentor's curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum).

The deadline for applications is June 1, 2003. Applications and inquiries should be made to:
