abuse in institutions and organizations

Last fall I indicated that we were reviewing the literature on child abuse in institutions (e.g., churches, schools) and organizations (e.g., scouts, sports), in an attempt to better define its nature and harm. A draft of this review is now available. Persons interested in being part of a "virtual expert panel" to comment on this draft are now being sought. For further information please contact me directly, per email below.

In a message dated 98-01-02 09:36:43 EST, you write:

"I am interested in obtaining citations to--or actual reports
of--evaluations of school-based intervention programs, particularly those
which attempted to reduce violence, truancy, sexual harassment, weapon or
drug possession, etc."

At the Center for Evaluation and Research with Children and Adolescents
(CERCA/MSPCC) we conducted a preliminary evaluation for the Mass Dept. of
Education on school-based comprehensive health education programs. The
report, entitled "Toward A Healthier Massachusetts for Children (1994)," is
more descriptive, but it does describe a number of school-based intervention
programs (some with evaluations incorporated into the program) designed to
prevent some types of student problems included in your list. Subsequent
evaluators were hired to produce annual evaluation reports. You could start by
writing the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit of Mass DOE (Malden, MA).
I would be interested to learning about other evaluations you uncover. Good
Luck.
