Re: Question about ethics issue in researching abuse
I think there are two issues at stake, methodological considerations
and ethical protection of the research participants.
Although the practical difficulty of finding more subjects who are
adult survivors of MBP looms large for a graduate student, perhaps
expanding the methodology to a phenomenology or grounded theory
study, with more research participants so as to saturate the data
might solve both difficulties. Then the information analyzed in the
dissertation becomes about the patterns of meaning or relationship
between codes and less about the demographics or other identifying
characteristics of the participants, and more meaningful results can
also be examined.
