Interviews with 930 adult women indicated that 17% of the Ss who had had a stepfather as a
principal figure in her childhood years had been sexually abused by him, while the
comparable figure for biological fathers was 2%. In addition, stepfathers were more likely
than biological fathers to commit the most serious forms of sexual abuse.
