Re: Economic Impact of Child Abuse

Hello Donna and Group-
In 1995, the Colorado Children's Trust Fund produced a report entitled:
Child Maltreatment in Colorado: The Value of Prevention and the Cost of
Failure to Prevent." This report analyzes the financial impact of
failing to prevent child abuse. It is a bit dated but could be of
interest to you.

Unfortunately, it is not available on a website but interested parties
can email me at scott.bates@state.co.us and I will send back an Adobe
Acrobat file of the report.

Take care,

Has anyone calculated the economic impact of child abuse? Data related
to the economic impact of physical abuse upon children two years and
younger and data related to the death by child abuse of children of this
age would be preferred. However, any data would be helpful. When I
think of economic impact, I think of the cost of immediate medical
care, of rehabilitative services, of long-term care, of protective
services, of law enforcement, and so on and so forth.

Thank you very much. (And please excuse multiple postings to multiple
mail lists.)
