emphasizes field data collection, statistical analysis, computer use,
program evaluation, professional writing for publication, proposal writing,
policy-making, and the practical application of these skills. Fellows are
encouraged to carry out their own projects, conducting their own research,
and submitting grant proposals to funding sources. In addition, Fellows
may enroll at universities in the metropolitan area to take advanced
courses on drug abuse research, related substantive topics, and research
methodologies as deemed necessary to round out their professional expertise.
