RE: maltreatment definitions
I would suggest that you contact the Child Welfare League of America. One
of the researchers there has compiled the statutory definitions of all of
these for all the states - and they do differ by state. One of the
continuing issues I believe in child welfare research is the lack of
comparability of the definitions across states. CWLA also maintains a
national database for state reported child welfare data called the National
Data Analysis System (NDAS), and at one time had proposed a project among
the states to try to come to some greater agreement on reporting
definitions. I am not in this field currently, but would suggest you could
start with Lynda Arnold who manages NDAS and she could refer you on to
whoever.
