Re: Child neglect research

The work by Ney et al. is some of the most important data on this topic.
I have recently published a review of other studies relevant to this
topic. See:
 Higgins, D. J., & McCabe, M. P.
(2001). Multiple forms of child abuse and neglect: Adult retrospective
reports. Aggression and Violent Behavior: A Review Journal, 6,
547-578.
Also, I have published a few papers that document the relationship
between neglect and other forms of child maltreatment (including physical
and emotional abuse). Most papers were based on data gathered from adult
retrospective reports; one was based on parent's perceptions of their
primary-school aged child's experiences.
 Higgins, D. J., & McCabe, M. P.
(2001). The development of the Comprehensive Child Maltreatment Scales.
Journal of Family Studies, 7, 7-28.
 Higgins, D. J., & McCabe, M. P. (2000). Relationships between
different types of maltreatment during childhood and adjustment in
adulthood. Child Maltreatment, 5, 261-272.
 Higgins, D. J., & McCabe, M. P. (2000). Multi-type
maltreatment and the long-term adjustment of adults. Child Abuse
Review, 9, 6-18.
 Higgins, D. J., & McCabe, M. P. (1998). Parent
perceptions of maltreatment and adjustment in children. Journal of
Family Studies, 4, 53-76.
Hope these are some help to you.
Professor Wells:

What a great resource.

Could you say something about what you mean by "best
practices." I read through the review and did not see
either the California or Illinois study. Did these
not qualify for review?

Bill
