Re: Study on child abuse

thanks so much aron.... any information i can obtain regarding this issue would be great....

one of the reasons i have picked this topic is because of my personal and professional interaction in the deaf community... while doing research for my comprehensive finals, i discovered that there is a dearth or lack of information on abuse of deaf children.... much of the information i found is very old and the body of knowledge is, therefore, limited because of that....(I will check the links that some of you just sent... thanks)

i think it is important to conduct research and to raise the level of awareness among educators about this issue... therefore, any and all assistance is much appreciated. this subject is also indirectly tied into deaf children being placed (due to abuse) in non-signing foster families and the impact that has upon the deaf child and the foster family as a unit.... placement with signing hearing or deaf foster parents is considered more appropriate, but placement of deaf children might be limited because of the lack of signing foster parents....

my thinking was to do a dissertation that looked at the amount of abuse in the deaf community within the orange, los angeles, riverside, and san bernadino counties in California .. with a random sample utilizing a survey to assess the percentages or amount of abuse that deaf adults experienced as children... looking at gender, age, types of abuses... and also possibly doing a qualitative part as well...

does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions that might be helpful? there are some really talented people on this list.... thanks.. Victoria
