I suggest being very skeptical of the so called antecedants to this type
of relationship, especially with literature written by clinicians. (I've
not read the cited work, but the ever-present 'dysfunctional family' is a
red flag for me.) Look for solid data to support this opinion, or, if it
is only opinion based on the particular therapeutic school of the writer
(e.g. there is this incestuous relationship, ergo there MUST be a
precceding dysfunction in the family) perhaps discard it for the time
being. If you see in your data support for it, then integrate it. If
you don't, then flatly debunk it with the facts you've developed.
