Subject: Police officer perceptions of the value of investigative
interviewing

Hi

One of my students I working up a proposal to explore police officer's (UK)
perceptions of the value of investigative interviews with abused children.
Given the fairly low prosecution rates despite children being interviewed,
she is interested the attitude and perceptions of police officers conducting
such interviews when the justice outcome may be minimal.

Would value any refs etc on this topic.

Thanks

Hi Shannon:

You are right. The body of knowledge in this area of concern is very limited indeed. I am presently a doctoral student who is working on my dissertation. I am looking at placement issues of deaf children who have been abused and whether that is affected by age, gender, pscyo-social issues, and limited signing families.MOre specifically, can deaf abused children be better served in a group home setting. I am having difficulty in getting the LA CPS Deaf Unit to respond to me in relation to doing a survey.

The Advocacy Council for Deaf Abused Children might be an exellent resource for you as well. A key contact person there would be Rick Mitchell, and also I believe our colleague, Dr. Richard Embry would be a good resource as well. He also did a dissertation connected to deaf abused children. He is a member of this list too.

If you would like to dialogue more about this issue you can contact me at vstuard241@xxxxxxx.
