RE: measures of teenage mothers' self-esteem and confidence

Hello all,

Working on effect of intimate partner violence on children. Trying to locate the 5 questions that are on the Prescreening Developmental Questionnaire (PDQ11), the mom's screening tool that goes with the DENVER II.

Does anyone have them?

Thanks in advance,

Richard,
Marion Becker and I have submitted a grant proposal, which includes a parenting intervention, the Nurturing Program (Bavolek, 1990), with children and parents during visitation.  The children will be transported from their foster home to their biological family home for visitation and one on one parent training.  We have many safe guards in place.

Here is a partial description:

Our proposal is for a three-year project to implement and evaluate the effects of a model intervention for families with children in foster care. Project Safe Family (PSF) is a cooperative undertaking of the Louis de la Parte Florida Mental Health Institute, The Thirteenth Circuit Dependency Court, the Child Abuse Council of Hillsborough County, and Hillsborough Kids Inc.  The goal of PSF is to increase the likelihood of safe and timely family reunification while decreasing the incidence of recidivism to the child welfare system for families with children ages 2-5, in the foster care system. The project will advance empirical and theoretical understanding of parent needs and other factors associated with: (a) successful parent-child reunification (b) diminished future recurrence of child maltreatment and (c) decreased child welfare recidivism. The PSF intervention overcomes several limitations of usual child welfare practice by making use of currently underutilized cour! t ordered parent visitation to deliver weekly home-based parent skills training . It also provides strengths-based wraparound case management services and community-based family mentor/peer support. Additionally, the PSF model intervention addresses important parental and environmental challenges. It is designed to prevent future child abuse or neglect by building parenting capacity, increasing access to needed health and human services, and linking parents to community support.
The proposed randomized clinical trial will test the effectiveness of the model child welfare intervention compared to usual child welfare services.

We chose the Nurturing Program as our parenting intervention based on some of the following factors:

Nurturing Program strengths include: (1) program materials designed for specific age groups of children and characteristics of parents; (2) one-on-one home based interventions; (3) both a cognitive and affective approach to parent training; (4) an emphasis on experiential learning, which involves both the parent and the child; (5) an extensive curriculum containing 48 lessons; and (6) materials specific to certain sub-groups, including African-American and Hispanic parents and families recovering from substance abuse. While we found no rigorous case/control research on the Nurturing Program, many pre and post-test design studies have been undertaken with promising results (Bavolek,1996; 2000).

I looked at some of the online information about the Nurturing Program and one
thing struck me -- there is no component I can see that directly addresses
domestic violence as a risk factor. Are you planning to assess for domestic
violence before starting this program with your parents?
