RE: Group Therapy Programs for Abused Children

A colleague of mine provided the following information:

You might want to look at some research articles written by Judith Cohen and Antony Mannarino.  They are in the Child Maltreatment Journal (which is the Journal for the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, Sage Publications)   They have done some research on group therapy using cognitive behavioral treatments and they have a curriculum you can look at.  In addition, contact Dee Dee at the Self Esteem Shop in Royal Oak, MI (www.selfesteemshop.com) and ask her for materials since she is familiar with lots of books that have been written for groups with abused children.

I am currently looking for empirically validated (or just high quality) treatment manuals that would allow us to provide groups for 1.  Physically abused and neglected children      2.  Children in Foster Care 3.  Children exposed to Domestic Violence and 4.  Children of substance abusing parents.  These are often the same children.  I am really looking for group therapy treatment manuals, however, I am also interested in what people have found are the very best treatment articles that they know.
I am the Director of a Child Abuse Treatment Program and we would like to expand our services to include group treatment-however, I am not finding very many useful treatment models.
Thanks,

In Cleveland we are renewing efforts to address the over-representation
of African American children in foster care. In Cuyahoga County, the
rate of Caucasian children placed in foster care is 3 per 1,000 children
while the rate for African American children is 13 per 1,000. While I
know the difference in these rates is often significant in many parts of
the United States, there is some feeling here that this difference is
unusually large, even for an urban child welfare system. I would
appreciate any information on rates in other U.S. cities/urban counties.
