RE: Child neglect and domestic violence
Dear Dr. Hartley,
I haven't seen anything specifically showing the association between child
neglect and domestic violence.
But the information closest to your inquiry would be the following.
While I was doing the literature review on the effect of domestic violence
on parenting (usually mothering), I've noticed that some of the findings
imply the potential problem of neglect. For instance DV is found to have
impact on children by making parents less emotionally and physically
available to their children (Levendosky, Lynch, & Graham-Bermann, 2000;
Erel, O., & Burman, B., 1995; Margolin, G., John, R., Ghosh, C., & Gordis,
E., 1996); DV reduces maternal warmth (Levendosky and Graham-Bermann, 2000);
and DV affected mothers are less supportive to their children (McCloskey,
Figueredo, & Koss, 1995).
I'd appreciate it if you post the list of your findings...
Good luck.
Sincerely,

Is anyone aware of studies examining the relationship between child neglect
and adult domestic violence. Most of the literature I've been able to find
focuses on the co-occurrence of child physical abuse and partner
abuse. I'd appreciate information on any literature looking at child
neglect and domestic violence.
