There is actually a literature in social psychology about the apparent
consequences of having different kinds of names (though perhaps, from what
people have been saying in this thread, the kind of name could be a marker
for parenting style/skills/etc.? I agree that this must be considered
within the appropriate cultural context.) The person whose work I'm aware
of in this area is Mehrabian; a quick lit search turned up the following
