Re: Researched reasoning for relative contact
Hi, Rolf--As one source among many for a summary of some of the research in
this area, I recommend The Foster Care Crisis: Translating Research into
Policy and Practice, ed. by Curtis, Dale, & Kendall, U. of Nebraska Press,
1999. The data (as usual) are complex and there's not as much of it as one
would like, but particularly the study by Davis, et al., (1996) could be
used to support point 1, in that parental visiting was associated with
reunification (it's a little more complicated than that, but that's the
basic point). Regarding kinship care, I think this is a more difficult
issue but, overall, there are a number of benefits, including increased
probability of parental visiting (Berrick, Barth & Needell, 1994; LeProhn,
1993).
Good luck!
