<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>In Connecticut, the Healthy Families sites, (funded 
by the Children's Trust Fund) give information to parents re: SBS during home 
visits.&nbsp; Healthy Families Programs provide home-based intervention and 
support to high risk first-time parents, beginning either in the prenatal period 
or immediately after the birth of the baby, up till the child's fifth 
birthday.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>The "lower-risk" component of this initiative is 
also part of every (16) Connecticut Healthy Families site - and is called "First 
Steps", a model program which originated out of the Georgia Council on Child 
Abuse.&nbsp; This program provides prevention education to first time parents in 
the hospital (including SBS), and then offers parents telephone support by a 
staff person or trained volunteer weekly, for up to six months after the baby's 
birth.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Both programs have been successfully at prevention 
of child abuse and neglect; I don't know if specific data on reduction of SBS is 
available through the Trust Fund or through Healthy Families America.&nbsp;

Although this might not be exactly what you are looking for, the AAPI could
be administered to your staff and scored (perhaps ahead of time), and a
discussion of the items on the scale, which includes a subscale on attitudes
towards corporal punishment could ensue.
Since we use the AAPI across several agency programs, we had an inservice on
using/administering the tool, which included each staff member taking the
test.  Our evaluator scored the tests, and presented a group score profile,
and individual profiles as well.
