RE: Articles

"Once were Warriors" a New Zealand film and available in most video stores
is one of the best and most powerful films I have ever seen. It is
graphically (physically and sexually) violent. It demonstrates impact of
domestic abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, drugs and alcohol, poverty,
culture and oppression. Some graduate schools in SW are using it in course
material. It requires a lot of processing time. It is very painful to watch.
It is very real, and replicates the lives of many of the children we work
with.

"Bastard out of South Carolina" is another film that depicts physical and
sexual abuse on a child, as well as family strengths and resilience. Non
protecting mother scenes are
bound to bring up major issues (also child's love for mother, even in the
face of her failure as a parent)

I am working on a project that is using hollywood movies to facilitate group
therapy discussion amongst foster kids who've been abused or neglected.
Does
anyone know of any movies that have scenes that would be relevant for this
purpose. Please let me know any suggestions you might have. Thanks,
