This actually stems from some information which has come out of research
into the ability of mental health professionals to correctly judge risk
of recidivism of violent offenders. The research was quite clear
that clinical judgement was worse than random chance at predicting
recidivism risk. There are likely a lot of reasons for that, but to
take that result and generalize it to clinical practice in a larger sense
is unfounded, unreasonable and unjustified.
And now back to your regular channel ...
Hmmmm .... that is something of which I am unaware. However,
as someone who does treatment of sex offenders, I am certainly aware that
this is the case in this field.
when I generalize the research you cite above to the field in general,

Ahhh - so the generalization *does* stem from the source I cited? I
am pleased.
I do not argue that it is not the case beyond that, but rather only that
the research I am aware of only applies directly to risk
assessment.
I would look into the work by Dr. Jeffrey Mitchell in the field of Critical
Incident Stress Management and Debriefing. The work is done under the
auspices of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation.
