Greetings Lourdes
I can give you some referenc4es to the issue of FGM.
There area number of organisations that address this issue. Some useful websites include:

FORWARD UK www.forward.dircom.co.uk provides information on issue across the board, publications include manuals for identifying the issues, ways of managing the issue from a social work professional perspective, books and visual resources on the issue
Equality Now www.equalitynow.org newsletter on issues about women.
or you may contact:
Women's International Network feminist.com/win.htm regular information and resources on women's issues.
Ammensty International also produce a comprehensive information package.
The World Health Organisation through the UN is also an active group.

There are a number of programs run in states across Australia that address the issue from a community education perspective, identifying the issue both as child abuse as well as a health issue. i am in the process of developing a training manual for front linbe case workers both in governement agencies as well as community based organisations.
You may wish to contact me off list for further details.

I am developing a research proposal on cultural competence and
practitioners' judgment on presence or absence of child abuse or neglect.
Do you know of examples, definitions in other cultures/groups different from
mainstream American society? Any idea where I can find reference of the
practice of female genitalia mutilation? Lourdes Diaz Latorre, doctoral
candidate at Wurzweiler School of Social Work.
