renewed abusive behavior

I'm looking for studies on the likelihood for renewed abusive behavior
against a child by the same person/parent after the previous incident
was investigated and after whatever "appropriate" measures were taken
by the legal and social services system.

Part of this is: how likely is it that kids end up in foster care "again"
after what appeared to be a successful reunification.

If that was correlated with external factors, such as availability of
social support systems, treatment programs, and potential mental
illness issues of the parent, that would be absolutely great.
