Re: Attachment

There is quite a bit of empirical and psychometric support for the construct
of attachment. A search under Mary Ainsworth's name should give you the
background. The "Strange Situation" task is the typical assessment for 18-24
month olds. This involves lab space with mother and stranger participating
with child. You can also do an Adult Attachment Interview with parents
because their views of their own relationships with parents are strongly
correlated with their attachments with their children. This is easier and
cheaper than doing the strange situation, which requires extensive training
and coding knowledge. But attachment references are plentiful in the
literature. People like Patricia Crittenden, Elizabeth Carlson, Michael Lamb,
and Alan Sroufe are good ones to look up in the Psych.Info database.
