Re: Motivation as a tool

The MSI-II is normed on admitted sex offenders, and thus would
have no bearing whatsoever on the question of veracity of offense
commission in someone denying guilt.  The Abel is a quasi-exper-
imental "test" of sexual interest (measures stimuli comparative
viewing time) and says nothing about acting out potential or past
behavior.   (All psychophysiological measures have notoriously
high error rates.)

When you allude to motivation as a tool for some sex offender typologies who aren't prepared to accept their diagnosis I assume you mean that same are in psychological denial. I'd be curious to know if these same sex offenders were pre-tested via the MSI-II (Multiphasic Sex Inventory) and/or AASI (Abel Screen) and depicted via Denier - Dissimulator scores they were in fact in denial and were positive for cognitive distortions.

The alcohol treatment literature refers to pre-motivational treatment groupings.  This is descriptive of individuals who are not currently prepared to accept that they have an issue with alcohol.  Some sex-offender groupings may be done this way as well.
