RE: Recidivism in Child Protective Service Families

You might want to take a look at two articles:

Fluke, Yuan, and Edwards, Recurrence of maltreatment: An application of the
National child Abuse and Neglect Data System (NCANDS). Child Abuse and
Neglect, vol 23, no 7, 1999.

DePanfilis and Zuravian, Epidemiology of Child Maltreatment Recurrences.
Social Services Review, June, 1999.

We in Louisiana are taking a closer look at the characteristics of families
that recidivate, those that have a substantiated finding and then come back
again to the attention of the system with another confirmed incident of
child maltreatment. Since this is an area of interest to all states because
of the Federal outcomes measures, I would like to know of any citations of
research or state administrative reports on this subject.
