RE: closing abuse investigations

Dear Caroline

I received a couple of graants from the National Center on Child Abuse and
Neglect to look at cases closed after investigation. The final reports are
probably available from the Clearing House. They are as follows: 1) "A
Longitudinal Study Of Protective Service Cases Closed After Investigation:
An Approach to Validating Risk Assessment ," Dec 30, 1992, Grant #
90-CA-1365
2)"Parental Substance Abuse as Risk Factor in Child Abuse/Neglect: A
Controlled Longitudinal Study," March 1994, Grant # 90-CA-1453.
An article based on the second grant is: Wolock, I. and Magura,S. Parental
Substance Abuse as a Predictor of Child Maltreatment Re-Reports in Child
Abuse & Neglect, Vol 20, No 12, pp 1183-1193, 1996.
In addition, an article will soon be published in an upcoming issue of
Children and Youth Services Review.
This article entitled "Child Abuse and Neglect Referral Patterns: A
Longitudinal Study" traces the reports of the families who were in our study
(whose cases were closed) from their first report through June 1996.

Hope this is helpful.
