I am currently taking a course in social science research methods - a couple 
of the books we are using are really good including: Designing Clinical 
Research, by S.B. Hulley 
and S.R. Cummings, as well as Research Design in Clinical 
Psych., by A.E. Kazdin.  I hope this helps.
